Industry inspired research in blockchain technologies and decentralized systems.

We are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new collaboration with blockchain technology research and development leader  IOHK Ltd - the opening of a Blockchain Technology Laboratory within the School of Informatics. 


To launch the Laboratory, we are pleased to host IOHK's CEO, Charles Hoskinson, for a joint presentation and wine reception.

Summary. 

Blockchain technology and distributed ledgers have been hailed as a turning point in scaling information technology services at a global level. The University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics, in collaboration with IOHK, a leader in blockchain technology research and development, will be launching the Blockchain Technology Lab, expanding the Security and Privacy Group's activities within the School of Informatics. The lab will serve as a research facility for conducting cutting edge industry inspired research in the  area of distributed ledgers and their applications to information Technology. 


Prof. Aggelos Kiayias, chair in Cyber Security and Privacy will give a presentation on the current blockchain technology landscape and will set the scientific directions of the lab. IOHK CEO Charles Hoskinson will present the vision of the company for global distributed ledger services and collaboration between industry and academia. The lab itself is part of a global effort of IOHK to engage in basic research and academic outreach in the area of blockchain services and follows a similar successful collaboration with Tokyo Institute of Technology launched in January.
